The ITACET Foundation and the Argentinian Association of Tunnels and Underground Space (AATES) recently hosted a seminar on 'The Management of User Safety in Underground Railway Facilities' in Buenos Aires on 5th September 2018 within the scope of the 8th “Tunnelling and Underground Space Days”.
The programme for the seminar, which gathered over 90 participants, was established in collaboration with ITA COSUF (the ITA's Committee on Operational Safety of Underground Facilities). Topics presented included safety principles for railway and metro tunnels, lessons learnt from past tunnel incidents, the role and main features of safety equipment, the main actors, roles and responsibilities in terms of safety for tunnels in operation, safety documentation, crisis preparation and maintenance requirements. The Sao Paolo metro network also served as a case study.
Many thanks to the local organizers and our three renowned lecturers, Messrs Roland Leuker, Peter Reinke and Hugo Rocha, who made the event a great success!
