The Tunnelling Association of Nigeria (TAN) took the opportunity of its 2nd Annual Tunnelling and Underground Space conference to organize a seminar on "Underground Space Use" in collaboration with the ITACET Foundation. This seminar took place on the first day of the conference (21st March 2018) in Abuja, Nigeria, and was open to professionals in the fields of engineering , geo sciences, architecture, urban and regional planning, legal and project finances, as well as to students and policy makers.
The aim was to provide an introduction on how the use of underground space can help increase liveability and sustainability in urban areas and in other key public resource regions. The seminar tackled key issues that need to be considered when using underground space and showed how these issues are dealt with on a worldwide basis.
Lectures were given to 92 participants and were notably provided by Mr Tarcisio Celestino, President of the International Tunnelling Association (ITA), Mr Olivier Vion, Executive Director of the ITA, Nikolai Bobylev, Associtate Professor at Saint Petersburg State University in Russia.
